This blog is the product of a college class project. The IP Law class required the creation of an "artifact," and I chose to create a blog about copyright law regarding blogging.
With more than 200 million published blogs online using multiple platforms such as Blogger, WordPress, Tumblr, etc, blogging has become a popular online communications tool. While blogging is a business for some and an expression for others, intellectual property still applies to this online world.
And with so many blogs and bloggers, copyright infringement has become a serious issue. As a public policy student, I identified this issue, and then searched for potential solutions to this issue.
Here are the three potential solutions I came up with to work against the issue of copyright infringement between blogs:
- A reporting system for bloggers
- More education on copyright and copyright infringement for bloggers
- Harsher regulation and punishment for those found guilty of copyright infringement
The first and third options have the risk of stifling the goals of the copyright law (promoting knowledge and innovation in our society), and I did not believe that those policies would be very effective in the long run.
I chose to go with the second option of more education on copyright and copyright infringement. I thought the best way to reach bloggers and share information on this topic would be through creating my own blog on this issue. The blog is both informative and interactive (through commenting). My hopes are that the blog increases awareness of copyright law and copyright infringement, decreases copyright infringement, and creates a network of bloggers who are aware of copyright laws regarding blogging.
Read through the posts and leave comments as you wish. Thank you for visiting this blog!
